From
Me to You,
Still basking in the afterglow of an exciting
and historic election process, we all have unforgettable memories from the intense last several months. With countless images
of President Barack Obama on every printable surface, who could get tired of seeing the face of our new leader—that
award-winning smile the picture of courage, determination and, of course, a constant reminder of change? Of the numerous images,
we couldn’t ignore those that capture the glances that President Obama and First Lady Michelle lovingly share. In the
presence of millions, the two look at each other with eyes full of respect and filled with passion and undoubtedly unconditional
love. But can we all share the love exhibited by our first family? Yes, we can! No relationship is perfect but we have a great
example in the head of our great nation.
With images, signs and songs of love splashed
all over in the weeks preceding and following Valentine’s Day (exciting for some, burdensome to others), it seems to
have sneaked its way onto the pages of this issue. Even as love fills the air, not too far hovers the cloud of dysfunctional
relationships that is a reality for far too many women. After hearing her incredible story of surviving numerous abusive relationships,
we knew that Sil Lai Abrams would offer a great contribution to this issue on love and relationships. From survivor to relationship
expert and empowerment specialist, Ms. Abrams offers her wisdom and shares a glimpse of her story that she recounts in her
book No More Drama (page 18).
Whether it be military obligation, separate
college or career moves that pull your significant other across the map, a dose of The Fly Guy may cure your long-distance
relationship. Relationship expert, The Fly Guy, reminds you that it may be rough, but it is doable (page 10).
Valentine’s Day, first (or fifty-first) date, date with the girls or date with yourself, make your way to one of our
recommended date spots (page 14). With all that said, we just want you ladies to be happy. Single or
with the man of your dreams, love yourself. You know how the song goes, “It’s the greatest love of all.”
Loving myself first, Danielle
